Three young adults wander through Trader Joes. They’re bored, but Sunday afternoon is the worst time to go to the grocery store for entertainment. Everyone knows this is something that must be done at 2am on a weeknight.
The ring-leader is a big white girl with an elaborate blond hair-do. Her top is basically a knotted handkerchief; pink and green paisley. The other two are dressed in baggy tops and jeans.
When the other girl boggles at the price of something, the ring-leader proclaims as loudly as possible, “Oh my God! I do not care at all about money!”
The rest of the store wonders whether she’s rich and mean or poor and irresponsible. All the adults know into which category she is likely headed.
“What’s your problem?” The ring-leader challenges the boy who’s been working hard to pretend he isn’t with them. He responds quietly in her ear.
