I’m redesigning my website now (again), so it’ll be my central hub.
I intentionally made my last website weird and homemade looking. I was rebelling against the corporate look that has taken over the internet. These platforms tightly control aesthetics, so everything is the same, same, same, as sterile as it can get.
They say my design shouldn’t compete with my content, so I’m bowing to external pressure to make it cleaner.
It’s been harder to accept than I’d expected. It’s actually depressing me.
One of the things I love about web design is that you can do anything you want, but apparently, you can’t. Consumption must be frictionless. These days, anyway.
I feel crushed under the weight of the expectation that nothing should require any extra thought or effort if anyone is to show up. Not just with websites.
